All funds to the Cape Guild of Weavers from this product purchase go towards hosting biennial guild exhibitions and our development fund donation program.

More about our Development Fund

  • We fund workshops and learning experiences for previously disadvantaged individuals as part of our aim toward inclusivity in the craft and textile sector.
  • Grants are given annually upon application.
  • Part of the grant stipulation asks that individuals receiving a development benefit through the guild provide one workshop free of charge after their learning to other members and the community. We also ask grant recipients for contributions to our new online content space to provide transparency on the development fund allocation.

Why holding exhibitions is important

  • Exhibitions are an important way to inspire the public and generate exposure for these ancient textile crafts.
  • We use part of these funds towards securing venues, hiring displays and marketing expenses
  • All exhibitions are run on a volunteer basis by members so funds go directly toward the public presentation of the guild exhibitions
  • The Guild experiences an upsurge in new membership sign-ons after exhibitions, especially with younger generations.
  • And as we all know - memberships are the lifeblood of maintaining the legacy of any guild, as this is the best way to pass on the torch of these crafts, through our workshops and guest speakers.
